A note before you act: entry and transport policies can change. Recheck the official source relevant to your nationality and route before departure.
Begin with one geographic story
China rewards focus. A first journey can center on the northern capitals, the gardens and cities of the east, the landscapes of the south, or the cultural variety of the southwest without trying to cover the entire country.
Let travel time shape the route
Count door-to-door travel rather than only the scheduled train or flight. A route with fewer bases and longer stays usually creates more room for neighborhoods, meals and weather changes.
Add a contrast, not another checklist
After choosing a main region, add one contrasting stop: a mountain after a city, a small town after a capital, or a slow landscape stay after several museum days.
